How to get here
WE RECOMMEND A DIRECT FLIGHT TO LIBERIA, THE LARGEST CITY IN COSTA RICA'S NORTH. THERE ARE DIRECT FLIGHTS TO LIBERIA FROM MIAMI (AMERICAN AIRLINES), ATLANTA (DELTA AND AIR FRANCE), HUSTON (UNITED), NEW YORK (JETBLUE) AND TORONTO (AIR CANADA).
You can of course also fly in to San José (from Europe there are direct flights from Madrid (Iberia)). From San José you might enjoy a scenic flight in a small airplane. However, they usually only allow about 30 pounds checked-in baggage per person. In the rainy season these flights may also be cancelled for bad weather.
If you plan to drive from San José to the Peninsula by car it will take about 4 hours and you will pass by the Liberia Airport (see description from there below). At the airport Daniel Oduber in Liberia you will find a taxi but we recommend to rent a car. All known brands are available (Hertz, Avis, Budget, Alamo, etc.)
From the Liberia airport it is a 35 minutes' drive: From the airport compound you take right in the direction of Filadelfia and the various beaches. Stay on this road for 6 miles until you drive over a metallic bridge. 300 yards after the bridge at the intersection and the sign to "Golfo de Papagayo" you turn right. Continue on this paved road until you reach Peninsula Papagayo. It is thereby important not to leave the paved road or make a turn at an intersection. After 13.5 miles you get to a rotary (round about). Take the second exit. After 400 yards you will reach the entrance gate to the Peninsula Papagayo.
Give the guard your name and tell him that you hold a reservation for el alma. After the gate you continue straight ahead for 3 miles where the street goes step uphill and you see for the first time a natural wall and houses on the left side. At the intersection turn right in the direction of the Golf Clubhouse. 500 yards further and you see on the left side the entrance to el alma. On the property you take an immediate left turn to the Guest House.
